First of all, I like its interface. Its very configurable, you can change icons, show and hide bars. I like very much the chat windows, they are WindowFX-ed, they show the nickname of the person you are talking to, its display picture and a toolbar with options to block, send a file or write an email to the contact. There has no emoticons and font colors support, but i think FoLKeN^ will add them in future plans. In the setup, you can configure the display, contact list sorting, and many things that original MSN Messenger doesnt have, like an auto-message for when you are away or busy, disable the opening of windows, etc. And if you find any bugs, you can report them trough the feedback that it includes, as you can also send suggestions to the author. I like it because its very complete and i think that many users will replace its current MSN client with this.

ssl.dll is totally a personal dll made by a friend that would allow MSN DX to login into msn servers via SSL. it is NOT for public use.

everytime i try to sign in it will say Signing in... then Receiving contact list... then in the status window i see * /hmake: invalid parameters (line 171, msndx.mrc) and it doesnt do anything after that

One thing is missing thought:
You can't disable sysbar icon, I would like to have this icon moved to channel bar.
Then it would be perfect. Except... Black text doesn't work on black background... I had to disable follow MTS colours and rich-text-chat.

definetly not, you'll have to look up inside source code where messages are managed and edit it manually to detect text strings and make an auto-responder or whatever you want to do

i have a black background and if i use rich text and emotions people ofter have a black fonts :( zo i canīt see what they are typing, if i disable rich text i have everything my way but no emotions :( can you make a extra option to seporate emotions and rich text?

you need VB6 runtime library ... normally its installed by default, but if you dont have it go to www.dll-files.com and download it, then copy to c:\windows\system32 dir

anyway i have recently discovered another bug where display pics are involved. i'll make a fix for this weekend and will update it

i made a big effort to understand your message, if you tried to say you can't send files, please make sure you have enabled port 6891 in your firewall/router settings.

Sunday, SSL connection is required in order to login to Passport. I don't know if FoLKeN^ already used SSL, but if not, it won't login again until it is fixed. (FoLKeN^: at least you'll know where the problem comes from, if there's any ;))

thanks a lot Artwerks. I had a dll made by a friend of hypothetic.org forum that would do the SSL login for me (i used it for the first client release using msnp8 -which didn't allow non-ssl logins at that time). tell me if you want it for your client, usage is very simple.

"autentication failed" is a message sent from server, i'm not displaying it with no reason. the only thing i can help you with, is to say you to VERIFY your address and password are correct.

please check - if your address is not @hotmail.com - that your address domain is also correct. at sign in screen you have a combo box, where you can select either @hotmail.com, @msn.com, @passport.net OR type your domain's address (in case it is none of those mentioned previously). sorry if i'm underestimating you telling this, but that's the only problem i can think of.

I haven't tested this yet, as I have other things to test and play with first, but in the course of things I've been thinking about this and wanted to say something before I forget.

Encryption :P

I would suggest FiSH.dll, as it's the best I've used so far, though that is up to whoever actually implements encryption in this addon; that would be me, but I am way out-classed by that task, now, so I pass it.

Hi FoLKeN^

To get all the characters you have to use Unicode utf-8 encoding. Unicode is an ongoing project to have all the characters in the world in a single system. It comes in three flavours, UTF-8, UTF-16 and UTF-32. The UTF-8 flavour uses between one and six bytes per character instead of one. The first 256 characters are the same as Latin 1, so the special Latin 5 characters have to use codes beyond this range (four digit codes).

it's kind of difficult to add support for languages using special characters, I mean, there is a way to do it dinamically (and not the way is currently done for "some" chars -using $replace), but I can't find the documentation to do it, and figure that out by myself would make me spend the time I don't have nowadays.

As I said in the latest update notes, this was the last version I was going to make so I don't expect to do a big update of MSN DX in the near future.

ok the emoticons panel thing is kind of strange, about the options not showing on chat window, that may be a bug on WindowFx or mIRC taking bad coordinates (for example, taking x and y values relative to your 2nd monitor and not to both)

will be a pain in the ass to solve that since I don't have any computer with two monitors handy :s...

Actually the only nice thing I see to WLM 8 are the offline messages. I hate the rest, specially its new look. If you are releasing something that ugly, please make it skinnable so I can choose the classic style. But the fact is, that everyone will love it ...

By the way, you don't need to be a beta tester to use it, so don't feel special because of that :P

Being a legal tester has its advantages since you don't have to use a sloppy hack that puts ads in the client to connect and you can invite others to test every so often (just like gmail did, they send out invites for testers.)

Bugs;

1. when loaded, sometime it doesnt load properly and doesnt set all the vars and loads dialogs...
2. when you open a convo, and mIRC windows are set the max the windows arent displayed properly
3. 09:47 am Error • RESETERROR Unknown Command - nothing else in my script has that var
4 File transfer STILL doesnt work

But, it still has less bugs then msn 8 ;/

Things to do in the future;

1. make it do things like MSM 7.5 can do (nudges, those flash things... stuff like that)
2. Emotions!
3. maybe add msn games you can play with your contacts (idk like chess, tic tac toe, minesweeper)
4. make it able to use multi convo - MsnDx really messes up when you have 2 contacts in the same box)
5 voice and webcam - that might be a lil hard tho

Uh that's all......

/reseterror is a new command for error handling that was introduced recently in latest mirc versions (cant remember which exactly), make sure you are using 6.16

well it is not properly implemented, but you can live with the way its currently done (you will difference who is talking now, not like previous versions)

Could you make a lock feature like mIRC to lock down MSN, that way when you get a new message and you have messenger in "hide" the message doesn't popup on the screen.
and when you double click the systray icon it asks for a password to unlock, when unlocked the messages received while in hide mode will show up?
I would really love this to be implemented. For now I think I will look at the mirc script and see if I can make my own temporarily. ;x

Addon works nicely, I can recieve a file but not send one, could be the router problem but the other msnirc clients work...? This client still doesn't support multiple ppl in a conversation window when the others do?

I have to say this is one of the better looking clients and very stable for what it does do, but seems to be lacking compared to others? :\

Actually I quit making MSN DX since 7.0 kicked all other third party client asses.

I am working on a final update, version 1.4 and the only addition will be an option for enabling/desabling desktop mode (many people requested that) and other minor changes.

Someday, when work and university give me a vacation, I will add html-enabled chat windows, supporting fonts, colors and emoticons (already done, but only in my personal msn client... and it's still difficult to take that feature to MSN DX)

About the problem you had, make sure port 6891 is enabled in your router/firewall settings. I have added multi conversation support on the update I'm working on. As well as an option to disable MTS theme colors on the whole addon.

Personally, I think you should continue it. It's already come so far and it still has lots of potential, with all the features implemented with MSNP11 and MSNP12 (winks, nudges, voice clips, new challenge reply algorithm, etc) you should have a few new challenges. I am with my client anyway.

I have now a strange bug (donīt know if itīs msn dx or not), if i close mirc, then all the variables in mirc goes to msndx.mrc... so the next time i run mirc i doný have msn dx anymore :(

Please re-download it, I submitted a wrong zip file which contained a big bug when clicking a contact.

Display pic and options dialog wasn't opening, it was only when someone sent you a message

2) i wanne see if somebody clicked on me or closes the connection like msnmirc
3) display icons (brb, on the phone and out to lunch)
4) auto accept files.
5) on explorer crash the tray icon is gone

and what is the difference between display icon: main and main (box) ?

not much really, "main box" is the same icon as main, but with a little box, just to put an icon on some dialogs... i removed it on 1.3

two things:

1. why so many files? the size limit being abolished for mIRC theres no reason you cant merge all that into one file.

2. doesnt work half the time when you try and connect, where as the normal msn doesnt have any problems connecting.

the tray thingy is solved, also the hide groups (sort by online /offline..)
now the problems for me so far:

Real msn wont run for me for some reason, so this is teh good ;)

suggestions:
in the file send status dialog, it shoud show the speed, as
well as the contact its going to, for multiple sends, w/out the name u
wont know which is going to who.

2nd thing is, ***EDIT< just found the icon editor ;)) ***
Also in the feedback is alot of text you get errors...

O ya, and at one point when trying to send a file, there was a
misspell, was supposed to be "the" and it was "te"

Once again, this addon is very user friendly, cleanly made, nice sleek
look to it. And very useful for ppl like me who cant use the real msn.
(errors when i try to run it after an install)
Keep addin features and expanding this.. webcam, mics, w00t ;/
