Description:
A full-blown script, with multi-language support, modules and a spiffy picture window interface.

Submitted Review Author's Updates
Review
Those of us who have been into the whole 'mIRC scene' for a longer period of time will probably have stumled upon this script before at some point of their online life. As for me, well, this script had already seen several releases when I was first introduced to the Internet. And here is its latest incarnation: version 8.0, for the first time on mircscripts.org.

For those of you who are less familiar with the script, here's a small introduction. IRcap is a multi-language script (though originally Spanish), featuring many of the features one would look for in a script. And there's module support in case you're not satisfied with those. But the thing IRcap is best known for is probably its interface. It's always been pretty heavy on looks, and the latest version is no exception: it's completely made out of picture windows.

Picture windows, yes, the latest fad in mIRC scripting, it would seem. The toolbar, the sidebar, the 'dialogs' - yes, indeed everything is made out of picture windows. You can even use a custom treeview-ish switchbar, though it's not enabled by default. As a result, the interface is completely skinnable and highly customisable. There's even a little bar under each channel window, handily providing you with all sorts of functions. It might be worth noting that the script manages to do all that without the use of any DLLs. At all. Impressive indeed.

However, there's a downfall for all this DLL-less graphical splendor. For example, I myself like to have all my windows maximised. When I do so in IRcap, the channel window completely covers everything but the menubar (and standard switchbar). And all of a sudden the script seems much more plain. The downside of not using any DLLs, I guess.

There's also the mp3 player which comes as a loadable module by default, which I think feels kind of twitchy. The buttons embedded in the toolbar are very small, and the trackbar is nearly impossible for me to control as it seems to be only a few pixels in height. I also couldn't get the forward/backward buttons to work. After fiddling with the playlist I stumbled across another inconvenience: my scrollwheel didn't work. If you ask me, this might be one of those occassions where the use of a DLL would be perfectly justified.

I'm not very good at any of the other supported languages, so I only tested the script using the English language pack. The English used in the script can be a little quirky, but it's something I could live with. Something I could not live with, however, were the yet untranslated services menus - though the author warned about it in advance in the original description for the script.

In conclusion, this is a pretty tight package. The author has gone to great extents to eliminate the need for stock mIRC dialogs, and with the skinnability, it really adds to the whole 'script' feeling. Yet, the script does feel kind of quirky at times, and I do suppose that is because of the markings on its forehead: 'beta2'. It's evident that this script is in need of some final polishing, but there's little doubt that it's getting there..

You should have ask it on Forum, but yes you can. There is a "Submit Form" link in "Interact" list you can use it to upload your script/addon/snippet/DLL. But before upload read the rules carefully and then submit your product.

I also noticed when you select "Show whois is active" in mirc options it still does whois'es in the status window :/

Other than this it's a great looking script :)

I think there are a problem with the panels on channels and queries, try to disable in Setup/Interface/Panel on Channel & private.

In the same Setup window, enable "Whois" in "Show in active window".

wh3rdOct 11, 2006 3:48AM
It didn't help with the @window, whois is fixed now, but I also noticed highlights are in status window now :p

*EDIT*

Actually, whois isn't fixed, it's still in status, whenever I manually whois someone and whenever someone queries me (made it whois on query) =(

Also, is there any way to remove the default mirc switchbar so I can have the channel list on your switchbar only?

And I'm curious why the themes don't seem to work on some nicks/channels:

Wrong:
[03:42] <@nick1> . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - .
[03:42] <@nick1> . dsvv 438488 4 jfnafs

Right:

[03:40] @nick2: 1 -> dsfffffffdsffdsfdsfsfd
[03:40] @nick2: 2 -> hgfhggfhgfhgfhgfhgfhgf

It seems to use mirc default theme on the nick1 output, both colours and style/theme :/
It's weir, because the output of what nick2 says is in theme colours, only his nick that's not "good" :)

Also, the highlights appear in status window as well as channel, in default mirc theme:

[03:58] #channel <nick1> hmm wh3rd

No clue why...

And is there any way to add a auto-connect server that's not added to the list? And to have different identd/real name on each server you auto-connect to? Would be nice feature :)

Also wondering if there's a way to show all the highlights you have in a seperate window, cus I can't find what people/highlights have been triggered while I've been away and I don't want/need a away pager, since I'm not logging :)

I have only a problem with the protection called in the "setup" dialogs "Anti/deop/ban/kick".
On irc.azzurra.org the syntax to use the ChanServ to unban an user is:

05:14 ChanServ *** ChanServ Help - Command: UNBAN ***
05:14 ChanServ Has ChanServ remove all bans preventing you from entering
05:14 ChanServ the given channel, or clear the channel's banlist.
05:14 ChanServ
05:14 ChanServ Syntax:
05:14 ChanServ /cs UNBAN #channel <ME|ALL>
05:14 ChanServ
05:14 ChanServ The UNBAN ME command removes all bans preventing you
05:14 ChanServ from entering the given channel. You must have at least
05:14 ChanServ VOP access to the channel to use to use this command.
05:14 ChanServ
05:14 ChanServ The UNBAN ALL command removes all bans on the given channel.
05:14 ChanServ You must have at least SOP access to the channel to use this command.
05:14 ChanServ
05:14 ChanServ Examples:
05:14 ChanServ /cs UNBAN #IRCHelp ME
05:14 ChanServ /cs UNBAN #Italia ALL

The protection tries to use in his code the dalnet network syntax and for this reason doesn't work.

GSiOct 13, 2006 7:29PM
I'll fix this for next release, thanks. The base networks menus are generic. Azzurra services are Epona or similar ?

No Azzurra uses services of his property.
This services are similar but not equals in the commands syntax to the equivalent dalnet network services.
I don't have found others problems with NickServ, ChanServ, MemoServ etc. :)

For the problem of the unban I have found a solution.
I have modified In your file "dalnet.inb" the alias "dalnet.inb.protchan" like this:

alias dalnet.inb.protchan {
goto $1
:DEOP | mcs deop $chan $nick | mcs op $chan $me | return
:KICK | mcs deop $chan $nick | if (.azzurra.org isin $server) { mcs unban $chan me } | else { mcs unban $chan } | .timerREJOIN 1 3 join $chan | return
:BAN | mcs deop $chan $nick | if (.azzurra.org isin $server) { mcs unban $chan me } | else { mcs unban $chan }
}

There is a little translation error in the italian setup requester relative to the section of the currency converter.
I have made a correction in the .lnh file if you wish I can send it to you. :)

I have been using ircap for as long as I can remember. I think 5.xx was my first one. This version (8.2 over Mirc 6.17) is the best one yet although I have a small problem with Jabber. When I logon as invisible ( on MSN, I don't use Yahoo or ICQ anyway) it won't show my online contacts, it only does so when I switch to away/available. When I am available I can't go back to invisible either although it says I am invisible above the contacts list. As I have added myself to my contacts I can also see that I am still visible, as can my contacts. I logon through aszlig.net. Maybe you can help?
Furthermore, it says there is a Dutch language version too, but I can't find it.
One last thing. I used to get IP mask next to the nickname when people entered the room, this version doesn't seem to do that anymore. Is that an Ircap, Mirc or a server thing? I am mainly on this server: chatcity.hetnet.nl
Although I have changed the colors of the joins/parts and quits to black/green and black/red in the script (the grey was a bit hard to read), full blown scripting is a bit over my head, I just never had the time to get my head around it.
And is there an Ircap room and on which server?
Thanks again for a fine script. I only hear praise and can only do so myself.
McLeod.

GSiMay 9, 2006 12:53PM
Is the way that msn transport works, you need to login with the transport, and if you are invisible on jabber, the transport contact isn¡t connected. But msn transport is better in each update, the last one cand send files to msn users. I think it will be able to log in and show invisible to the contacts you want.

About dutch translation, one Mircscripts.org user, Halios, offered to translate, but he stopped.

ident@host are hidden by default on join/parts events, in order to simplify texts on channels. But you can show then enabling "Show address.." option in Setup / Interface / themes / options.
The mIRC colors aren't used in text theme, but I'm thinking in modify color schemes in setup for next updates.

I think there are a #IRcap channel in the principal networks, just join and try... #IRcap on irc.irc-hispano.org is probably the big one.

I want to improve the balls collision, and I'll add a few controls to join game channels and others options. Probably the game messages will be normal /msg instead ctcp's, because ctcp's can activate the flood protections in others scripts. So the next update will be an add on wich runs on any script (and incompatible with the old version).

Script uses $decode to store passwords and to retrieve photos in Jabber vCards. You must to unlock it. Script can't do for you, so you need to unlock manually. On start, scripts show you this warning (but it seems that you ignore the warnings...):

"$DECODE locked. It's neccesary to store encripted passwords and others functions.
You need unlock it from mIRC Setup (pressing Alt + o), section "Other / Lock / Disable commands:".
For more info, visit http://www.ircap.net/ayuda/decode.html"

Script shows a warning if you write some command containing "$decode" and others identifiers that can damage the script, so you can use $decode safely.

Because you need to select a nick on nicklist to do a ping... I can check this to not show the error, but I think it is not neccesary.

hixxyApr 16, 2006 7:32AM
You could still prevent the message by checking if (!$lock(decode)) before trying to use it

GSiApr 16, 2006 7:37AM
Prevent the message means to not use $decode after, and the script need to use $decode. The message isn't the problem.

There is a script warning on start, and I think its enought (but some users ignore it..).

hixxyApr 16, 2006 7:39AM
I meant that you could use a custom message. It's just nicer to see a script in control of what's displayed rather than mIRC :P
This way you could add the message in different languages too.

I use $decode to show photos in Jabber vcards, which are encoded using base64. It can be a large file, with 500 Kbytes, for example. $decode do it fast, but I think will be too slow if I use a routine instead $decode.
I think is better to unlock $decode.

Do you have the file in that folder ?

Anyway, that sound isn't played when clicking on playlist... try to reinstall the script.

GSiJun 20, 2005 7:27AM
Yes, it's a beta, there are many things to do, like services menus multi-language, but I'm on it.

It does not use any dll to dock the bars, for that reason if you maximize the windows, the bars are hidden. But for it script takes a function that fits the size of the window to maximize it without hidding the bars. You can activate it in the Setup/interface/maximize windows.

About the mp3 player, the buttons are small, in the skin "Neablue" almost.. but each skin is different, and you can choose/made one with gigant buttoms...
In any case the true player is the playlist, that has all the controls of the player and you can resize the window so the trackbar is as big as you wish. The other player is embebed in the bar, for that reason its size depends on the size and design of the bar, that is different in each skin.

I am a little reticent to use dll's, but you are right that is necessary for things like scrollwheel, and perhaps in a future it uses them.

teh_proxykillah, it's a great reason to no use a script because is made using picwin. And it's admirable your capacity to criticize a script whitout download it.
About the "warscript"... where are the war stuf on IRcap ?

Thanks for your comments :)

EnthusiastJun 22, 2005 3:48AM
Hi, I've just downloaded it, looks very nice, though there's a few bugs which I can't particularly remember. I'd probably start using this once the final version is out.
Maybe you could make the sidebar resizable, and think of a way to make the nicklist in a pcwin outlook too.

EDIT: I think it'll also look nice if the channel windows blends in with the "pcwin theme" rather than having it a "window'd look"

EDIT: Ok, just found out that the switch bar is resizable. I'm still trying out the rest of the features, will give more feedback.

A channel window and nicklist in picwin will be nice, but I think it will be slow, and for some users that joins in many channels with a lot of traffic (for example mp3 channels) and the cpu consumption would be unacceptable. So, I prefer the normal channel windows, at the momment.

Sidebar can be resized, and the interior pannels too, by draggin the separators. You can add content to the sidebar using the Setup, and in the next update the modules for sidebar will be able to be added simply placing their files in the suitable directory.

EnthusiastJun 23, 2005 12:19AM
Are we able to use other MTS themes? or only those that you have created specially for IRCap? Or is it even possible to do a "enable pcwin for channel windows/nicklist"? Sounds like a lot of work though, but I like the script overall.

EDIT: Maybe you could also add the custom @windows like the setup to the switchbar, under the 'Others' section, because what I did was I disabled mIRC's switchbar at the bottom, so I couldn't really toggle between your setup window if I minimized it. - is this even possible?

EDIT2: I realised it's somesort of a bug, sometimes it shows @setup in the switchbar when mIRC's default switchbar is enabled, if it's disabled, @setup won't be there. or so it seems for me....

I was long time thinking about what theme system to use. Finally I decided to use one own that works fine on my script. But is difficult to users to make new themes.

About MTS, probably I'll make a converter for it that generates a theme script for IRcap. Really the most popular mts engines works at this way, they generates/compile a mts file and produce a script file.

About the switchbar, is a problem that I haven't resolved for now. For the switch I use the $window().icon property and it don't work if the mIRC switchbar are disabled. The script don't use /dialogs, use picture windows and hidden lists for the gui listboxes, and they are considered as normal windows for mIRC.

I believe that some dll's show over mIRC switchbar a dialog with one custom switch or one status line, for example, and that may be the solution to hide mIRC switch without disabling it. But I must to test it, I don't have experience with dll's.

How does the DoS protection work?

GSiJun 22, 2005 7:15PM
It's for old attacks, like con\con\ or com1, aux, etc. on nickname.

KrypticJun 23, 2005 4:30AM
LOL well that isnt really DoS. dos is denial of services and is done by hundreds of bots and it doesnt attack nickname they use ips ;/

GSiJun 23, 2005 6:12AM
No, denial of service done by hundreds of bots is usually called DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service).

Those old attacks wich I make reference caused the crash of mIRC and, sometimes, the operative system. They had the same effect that the old nuke to port 139, which is the perfect example of an DoS attack . At this time those irc attacks were described as DoS in all security bulletins, and for that reason in the IRcap I call tem "DoS". Perhaps it's not the most apropiated term, do you have any sugerence ?

If you say so dude ;/

AmunJul 14, 2005 3:07PM
He is right. DOS stands for Denial Of Service. Its like me running your mailbox down with my car, you cant get mail until you fix your mailbox. Now, flop that towards the internet world. Anything that denies you of service is a DOS.
The old con\con\, the old Atho+, aux\aux\, or pinging someone so many times they flood off. Distributed Denial Of Service (DDOS) is where it happens by more then 1 source. Say you and 5 buddies ping someone via CTCP on IRC a bunch of times.

DDOS does not specificially deal with BOTS or DRONES.

If you have been on the internet for more then 5 years, or on IRC for that long, you would know these terms, and the meanings.

hixxyApr 19, 2006 9:16AM
I don't know if you found a solution to this or not yet, but you could make the toolbar an ontop window (/window -o) and then remove the ontop setting when mIRC isn't the active application.. on *:appactive:{ if (!$appactive) window -u <window> } This would require the bar to be a desktop (/window -d) window too.

This way, the bar will be on top unless the window that's maximized is also on top.

WHAT A GREAT REVIEW MAN YOU DESERVE A GOLD STAR

in other news, the whole picture window thing has turned me off downloading this, don't get me wrong, it could be gods gift to scripting but a whole script made in picwin isn't cool...

PS ITS CLASSED AS A WARSCRIPT BY UNDERNET.

I'm not really into it myself. In fact, I haven't used any script for longer than a couple of hours since aIRC. I just tried to write an objective review..

ChyortJun 28, 2005 4:23PM
look at alse script done in picwins...looked pretty good and ran pretty good, and it was cool. fixin to dl this script now just to check it out

LazaroJul 7, 2005 7:10PM
Ok, and moo.dll is classed as a backdoor in a lot of cheapy antivir packages. You know.

hixxyApr 19, 2006 9:12AM
It is? The only problems I've seen anyone have with it is that it spams in quit messages, which is basically a way of crediting the author. It's definitely not a war script..

GSiFeb 18, 2006 12:24PM
Edit:
8.12 works with mIRC 6.17.

Please use with mIRC 6.16.
Need some corrections to work with mIRC 6.17 (submenus and others), and the $decode needs to be unlocked, it's used to store nicks & channels passwords, and to decode vCard photo in Jabber module (using base64). I think there are better ways to protect users for malicious uses of $decode instead locking the identifier, wich is used for many scripts (I suppose).

FoLKeN^Mar 3, 2006 5:33PM
had the same problem, and totally agreed

why not simply lock $decode when trying to execute like //$decode

i dont see other way that could be dangerous

hixxyApr 19, 2006 8:59AM

//var %t = J)&9I;F1F:6QE*&,Z7"PJ+#$L96-H;R`M82!H;W<@86)O=70@=&AI<S\I```` | echo -a $($decode(%t),2)

If you're paranoid, run it without the $( ,2) part so you can see the code. Either way, you'll see another way that $decode() can be used to exploit people.

Hi, downloaded your script and i got to say I like it......it's the same as some of these others you can dl in alot of ways but i do like, and appreciate all the work you put into it if I didn't do my own thing, I'd prolly use it, nice work didn't find any real errors except the decode thing anyways kudos.

I need to add something else lol, it isn't exactly likeother scripts out there and i do love the idea with the language packs and stuff it's a great idea to open up your user base to non english speaking people especially now with the UTF-8, i also like thepicwin look i know some don't but it does make it diffrent when i said the same as others on this site i meant as far as gui kinda stuff wether with dialogs or picwins anyways guess I'll stop rambling now, really nice work.

Rating:     8A very good, nice and handy script, the only thing i'm missing are some nice talkers and popups (standard), also i could not find the dutch language pack, altho the documentation said it should be availlable. Maybe i'm looking over it, but if it is not availleble can i write my own??
Also i don't have any problems with the mp3 player it works just fine.
Thanks again for making this very nice script!!

GSiFeb 13, 2006 7:41PM
Sorry, I confused Dutch with Deutsch (German)...
Language files are easy to translate, you must to mantain control codes and some keywords and identifiers, and translate the rest. And if you want I can incluye your translation in the install file.

HaliosFeb 14, 2006 8:24AM
No prob, it happens often, Dutch, Deutsch :-) Anyway Dutch (Nederlands) is not included in the script yet i understand. If you would like explaining me what to do so it can be translated , I would be glad to do that for this very nice script. (it's a way to say thank you, for making it :-) ). And it would be nice to add the translation in the install file :-)

Greets,

Hello,I'm a user from China.I've a problem here.

It shows like this:
"              ?fj5 hello
              ?fj5 can you see my words?"
when I'm chatting with orthers.

I have read about that---"You are right, there is a bug in the theme script for english. I fixed the spanish file, but I forgot to do the same in the other language files.. (for this I want to make the base theme multi-language, instead a file for each language).
If you can't wait for the next update, you can fix the bug in the file "base-en.tti", in this line:
:CLONES | return $logo %al <c7>CloNes <c4>[<c5> $+ $3 $+ <c4>]<c5> $2 <c4>[ $+ $numtok($3-,32) $+ <c4>]
replace it with this:
:CLONES | return $logo %al <c7>CloNes <c4>[<c5> $+ $3 $+ <c4>]<c5> $2 <c4>[ $+ $numtok($3,32) $+ <c4>]
(only remove the " - " in $3-)"

But can't solve that problem now.And I can't find a file named as "base-en.tti",only a file named "base.tti" in /skin/BASE,there isn't $3-,just $3 already.

Hope you can tell me what I should do can solve this problem.Thanks a lot!!!

GSiJan 18, 2006 1:13PM
I think there are a problem with the text justify. Do you have Tahoma font ? I don't know if your chinesse Windows have different fonts. Do you have the same problem if you use a different text theme ?

I have a new problem.
It always show me that "TM.W unknown command" and "* /echo: insufficient parameters (line 576, ircap1.mrc)".
I found it.-------
" var %a = $tma($iif(%tma.addr == on,quit,quit2),$nick,$address,%spam.mquit) | var %i = $comchan($nick,0) | while (%i > 0) { if ($kprot($comchan($nick,%i),35) != 1) { echo -tqi100 $comchan($nick,%i) $iif(($window($comchan($nick,%i)).stamp),$remove(%a,$strip($timestamp)),%a) } | dec %i }"

cnpsmDec 11, 2005 2:39AM
And now,I want to chatting with orthers like this---I say to somebody : something...when I click his or her name at the nicklist.
Remember that I can use-----------on *:INPUT:#:{
if ($snicks) say say to $snicks : $1-
else say $1-
halt
}
but now,it can't work when I add these to s/ircap1.mrc.
So I hope someone can help me to do this.
Thank you at the first.

oh man that i need it's great but some bugs in this scripts
"142312:1430 12••• IRCAPWEB unknown command" Setup / Interface / Options when u chose private on double click... i found one.. anyway nice work man :D

GSiNov 20, 2005 4:00PM
Alias "ircapweb" aren't called in the option "private on double click"... are you sure that is in this option ?

And there are an alias called "ircapweb", so you can't get the error "ircapweb unknow command". I think the script files are corrupt, try to reinstall the script.

How can i set it so that i can see (ident@ip.org) when a person joins/quits a chan?

i tried turning it on in mirc settings show user address and show short joins/parts but that dosnt seem to work.

* /msg: invalid window (line 777, ircap1.mrc)

* /hfree: no such table 'CONN' (line 190, conn.mrc)

I give this 2 thumbs up for sure,just like teh_proxykillah said above deffintly a gold star script i rank this up there with eXtreme v8.21 by Kall
well done keep up the great work.

I will be trying this script out but to compare it to a script that is full of bugs, never updated and is a compilation of rips from various scripts is kind of unfair don't you think?
